Nutritional information
Citrus nutrition is essential in determining both qualitative and quantitative yield in production. When planning the fertilizer programme for citrus it is very important to consider different parameters as:
- The nutritional requirements of the cultivation
- Plants density
- Physical and chemical characteristics of the soil
- Qualitative characteristics of the irrigation water
- Plants age
Nitrogen
Essential for growth and development of the plant. Involved in the production of chlorophyll and proteins. Plants take this important nutrient in its nitric and ammonium form mainly during spring and summer seasons (blossom - first fruits - fruits evelopment). Nitrogen intake decreases significantly during late summer and autumn season.
Phosphorous
Involved in the production of vitamins and enzymes, it has a direct effect on fruits development. Phosphorous intake is higher during the spring season (blossom and first fruits phase).
Potassium
It is important in photosynthesis and in determining the foliar development; Potassium intake is higher during the summer season, especially July and August.
